Cleaning Up The California Sky With The Transit Connect

Yesterday the Los Angeles Times reported that an Orange County taxi company will be unveiling their new line of natural gas powered Transit Connect’s. The taxis were first bought from a California Ford dealer and a local private company has retrofitted the vehicles with a natural gas powered engine. So, why natural gas? The advantages are two fold:

1.)  Natural gas burns cleaner in a combustible engine and thus produces less emissions than the gas powered rides that cruise around Orange County that many of us would only dream of driving.

2.)  Natural gas is nearly $2.00 cheaper per gallon. Yes I said $2.00 CHEAPER!

While currently their practicality in a place like Cincinnati is questionable (especially being that natural gas is not an option at the pump) this taxi company should be praised for their efforts to save money and the environment at the same time.
