Slowing Down On The Weekends

The alarm goes off and you have twenty minutes to get up, get a shower, get dressed, feed yourself, and scramble into your car for the commute to wherever your heading that day…and it’s a Saturday. Now I understand full well that with all the hustle and bustle of the workweek that often, people just have to “get some stuff done” on the weekends. If this is you and you are starting to feel like all seven days are melting into the same rush and/or you’re about to explode, I have a couple suggestions that may help you with all this busyness.

For starters, set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than when you intended, especially on the weekend. While this may sound counter productive, you will either “snooze” for a while longer tricking yourself into thinking you’re getting more sleep or you can actually get up earlier. By getting up earlier you will be in less of a rush and you may be able to actually grab that cup off coffee, talk to your partner, or take that last hair curler out of your hair (without someone in public telling you it is in there…opps!)

You could also do nothing for 10 minutes. While this may sound weird, simply sitting down at the beginning, middle, or end of your day and doing and saying nothing is quite relaxing. While you may be busy all week and weekend, at least you will be able to recharge for a few minutes.

Finally, make time to hang out with a friend, family member (that you like), or your partner on one night of that weekend. Watch a movie, catch a game, or just sit and talk. While you are busy during the day, you can at least slow down for a few hours when the sun goes down.

What are some ways that you slow down your elusive weekend?
