We know that Ford Sync can be helpful when you’re driving by keeping your hand on the searing wheel and your eyes on the road, but do we really know how much it helps keep us safe. Ford recently conducted a study in Washington D.C. to test the safety benefits of using the Microsoft Sync system found in many Ford vehicles. They took 25 drivers who use Sync on a regular basis and tested their behavior and attention on the road while using Sync to navigate their phone and other media devices. Then using those same drivers they had them do the same tasks, but this time without Ford Sync. The findings are shocking and may help to stress the importance of driver safety and overall benefits on in-vehicle technology.
The research found that when reading a text message manually from your phone, the drivers eyes were off the road for 11 seconds (count to 11 out loud to so you realize how long that really is). When using Ford Sync to read the text message, the driver’s eyes were only off the road for 2 seconds. Even more shocking is when drivers were using their handheld devices they drove out of their lane 30 percent of the time compared to ZERO percent when using Sync. That means those who didn’t use Ford Sync, every 3 times you look at your devices they were swerving into the other lane once. The study found that when not using Ford Sync, drivers are 2.8 times more likely to have an accident.
So next time you get in your car and think using hands free devices are too high tech for you, think again; it could save your life.
