This is a simple how to guide on pairing your iPhone with your Ford vehicle that’s equipped with Microsoft SYNC®. Your Vehicle Says “Connecting…”

If your vehicle displays the “Connecting…” message whenever the phone button is pressed you’ll want to cancel it by pressing the “OK” button. This message is indicating that the vehicle is trying to connect to a previously paired device. Once it’s canceled you’ll want to use the Seek or Arrow buttons to locate “Add Bluetooth Device” on the screen. Once there press “OK” and “Find SYNC” will be displayed, press “OK” one more time. You’ll now see a 6-digit PIN displayed on the vehicles screen. You can now proceed to the Pairing Up Your iPhone instructions below.

I followed your instructions but when I try to type the 6 digit pin nothing happens or as i’m typing the box just goes away

    • myTech Team

      Hi Gary,
I know you posted this quite some time ago, but to those who might be experiencing the same thing I would suggest a reboot of your phone. Make sure you leave it off for around five minutes before turning it back on. Once the phone is back on attempt to pair the phone again. If you’re still having difficulty pairing up the phone get in contact with me through the email and phone number listed above.

There isn’t a field to put this PIN # in???

  • Brian Pawley

SYNC is the only system that I have trouble connecting my iPhone to. Still trying. Is this a deliberate Microsoft ploy to upset Apple users?

    • myTech Team

Actually Brian, the iPhone is considered the best overall phone for connecting to SYNC. I would try to fully power down your phone for 1-3 minutes. After that is done proceed to pair/connect it with SYNC. In some cases if you leave a phone on for long periods of time the bluetooth connection with SYNC begins to degrade. Your more than welcome to get in touch with us via phone or email if you have any questions.

  • kaj

I have tried and follow all the instruction to paired my iphone4 to 2009 ford focus but iphone cant find the bluethooth in the car

    • myTech Team

Hi Kaj, I would try rebooting your iPhone and leave it off for two to three minutes. After you’ve powered the phone back up fully proceed with the pairing process again. If you need further assistance give us a call at 1-855-567-0440 and we can walk through some additional solutions.

  • Rich

after you type in the code you need to enter it by pushing the pair button on you phone. It is upper right on the same screen of your phone

  • Megan

My sync keeps saying that the Bluetooth is off. Every time I try to set it to on, it will automatically and immediately turn itself off. Help please! I have an iPhone 5 and a 2012 fusion

    • myTech Team

Hi Megan, I would recommend taking the vehicle to your Dealerships Service Department. From there they will be able to have find the best course of action to resolve the situation. If you have any questions you can send me an email directly at

My car haven’t Bluetooth, how to synchronize my iPhone using cable between iPhone Ana car USB

    • myTech Team

      Hi jeje,
I’m having trouble understanding your question so I’ll answer it the best I can. You can plug your iPhone into your vehicle’s USB port and it will charge your device and grant you access to the phones music library. If you want to sync up your phone the vehicle must have SYNC and the Bluetooth on your phone must be turned on. Once the Bluetooth on the phone is turned on you can follow the steps listed in the article to get you connected.

If you’re still having trouble you can email me at

  • Chelsea

I updated my phone to the iOS 7 and now when paired my phone won’t navigate through songs using the seek button on the steering wheel or on the radio.. Is this a problem with my stereo or my phone?

    • myTech Team

      Hi Chelsea,
I haven’t heard of iOS7 disabling the navigation of songs through the vehicle. I would suggest performing a Master Reset on the system and seeing if the situation progresses. If not let me know and we’ll explore some additional options.

  • nancy

HI Gary- I’m hoping you can help me I have been able to pair my phone however it wont allow me to upload my phone book. it goes through the motions of downloading phone book and then says phonebook/call history not available. any help would be appreciated!!

  • Centurion

I recently bought a 2011 F250 KR and It has the nav-dvd-etc. It says that my Iphone 4s does not support text messaging. Is this true and/or how do I make it text to voice?

  • Ron

How come when somebody calls me that is in my phonebook on my phone they show up as unknown instead of their name?

    • Lebanon Ford Concierge

Ron, Have you confirmed that your phone book has been downloaded to the sync system?

  • CindyT

Someone else already asked this, but I did not see a reply. My iPhone 4s was successfully connected to Sync for about three weeks, then suddenly it didn’t recognize my phone book. I tried everything to resolve: set Auto Download; deleted and re-added my phone; deleted again, rebooted my phone and re-added. Followed all the instructions above. I am able to successfully add my phone and it works for incoming calls, but it continually says “No Entries” in my phone book. If I want to dial out, I can only redial someone that called me. Since I have “no” phonebook, I can’t recognize the numbers. In troubleshooting in the Sync manual it says you may need to “push” your phone book from the phone to Sync and to refer to the phone’s manual, but I cannot find a single thing regarding this anywhere. Please help. I’d like to use Sync as it was meant to be used. I have a 2011 Escape and an iPhone 4s with IOS7. Thanks

    • Lebanon Ford Concierge

Cindy, If you go into the Bluetooth menu in your phone under the devices that are paired. Select sync, there will be a blue “i” on the right side. You should be able to scroll down through and make sure “All Contacts” is checked. Let me know if this helps. You can also call the dealership @ 513-932-1010 Ext.123

  • Jan

I have Verizon’s new Moto G. How do I connect it to my “new” 2013 Ford Escape SEL with Sync? It tells me to search for Sync on my phone but I don’t know how. Thanks!

    • Jan

FYI: I’ve already tried by turning on my Bluetooth but that didn’t work either.

    • Lebanon Ford Concierge

You should be able to go into your settings on the phone, then to bluetooth. The phone should be able to scan for devices.

  • Maggie

I synced my phone and it works but it won’t play my music.

    • Lebanon Ford Concierge

What kind of phone are you using?

  • Gumballthechewy

I have the same problem as Maggie, it’s a rental car (so it’s not a big deal but I’d like some music), it’s a Ford Fiesta and I plugged my iPhone5s into the USB slot and it played music fine at first but now it won’t play music anymore.

  • Nicola

I can’t seem to use the text option on my fiesta

  • Tracy

Every time I try to sync my phone it says no phone and the Bluetooth is on what do I do?

  • Kaitlyn Hafley

My iPhone 5s will not connect with my car. My Bluetooth is on and discoverable but will not pop up on my iPhone.

  • s5hez

I have just bought. 2014 fiesta, tried to synch my iphone 4 , it worked once, loaded up the contacts and made a call but now wont connect, it is there as i can play music through aux but no phone or phonebok now shows under the phone , tried to delete it and start again, wont delete, tried my sons phone, that worked ok, mine seems to be stuck,if i try to re synch it pairs up but then says to check phone will share and then disconnects, cant find anything on the phone stopping this, please help.

    • Alisid

I have the same problem. My husbands phone works but I can’t even delete mine to try to start the process again.. Please help!

      • s5hez

Hi, i took it back and the service dept disconnected the car battery, left it 10 mins, connected it back and my phone had deleted, then did the standard sync and its been fine since, hope this helps

  • GJB

My iPhone 5 worked until iOS 8 then it stopped downloading my contacts. The display says they were downloaded then seconds later shows “No Phonebook Entries”.

    • Lebanon Ford Concierge

You will probably need to delete the phone and then re pair it.
