Ford’s new Prius fighter, the 2013 C-Max Hybrid, came out of the gate strong last month winning the first round of this sure to be intense battle for Hybrid dominance. The new kid on the block, The Ford C-Max Hybrid outsold the Toyota Prius V by more than 400 cars in October. Ford sold an incredible 3,182 units compared to Toyota’s 2,769 units. In October Ford also achieved its best Hybrid sales month ever at 4,612 units sold thanks to the new C-Max, up 162 percent from October 2011.
C-Max helps break Hybrid record
The C-Max not only helped Ford break its Hybrid record, but played a huge part in crushing its 11 year record for small cars sales last month. Sales of Focus, C-MAX and Fiesta were up 54 percent to 25,493 units year over year according to a recent Ford press release.
“The new C-MAX is off to a fast start in the heart of the hybrid market, not only outselling Prius v, but drawing a lot of interested Toyota customers who chose our new hybrid instead,” says C.J. O’Donnell, manager, Ford Electrified Vehicles. “Customers now come into our showrooms for fuel economy, and we’re delivering with six vehicles that offer 40 mpg or better, including the new C-MAX Hybrid at 47 mpg combined, with another two on the way by year’s end.”
Buyers aiming for high-end models
One of the more interesting statistics from last month’s sales results was that 60 percent of customers purchased Ford’s C-Max SEL model, according to Yahoo Finance. A model which offers a ton of bells and whistles like: Intelligent Access with push-button start, rain-sensing wipers, heated seats, SYNC with MyFord Touch, ambient lighting and the Reverse Sensing System standard.
“The C-MAX Hybrid is winning over customers with its best-in-class passenger room, smart technologies and leading fuel economy,” says O’Donnell. “And its $25,995 price tag gives customers the value they are looking for without having to make the typical compromises that have defined most hybrids until now.”
The fight for Hybrid dominance is far from over and with only one month of sales reported its hard to tell who will come out on top, but it’s good to see an underdog like the Ford C-Max giving the dominate Prius a run for its money.
